Cochrane RCMP has confirmed that an unusual occurrence of a man dressed in camouflage carrying a weapon has ended peacefully without any consequences, while charges are pending in the incident. Sources confirm that a man was seen near Highway 22 at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, who was dressed in camouflage and seemingly carried a long gun over his shoulder.

Police officers followed the suspect to a neighbourhood skate park and tried to convince him to surrender, however he ignored the call and instead headed into a nearby field. According to the Calgary Police, HAWCS helicopter were used to track the suspect as RCMP cordoned off the area and told residents to remain in their homes. Cpl. Greg Stannard, of the Cochrane RCMP, mentioned that “we cleared the area as you can see. There’s a skate park, there’s some ball diamonds – we cleared those immediately. Other than that, the residential area, we have members all around the area where the houses are and anyone that’s approaching the area where we think he is, we’ve sent back into the other parts of town.”

Eventually, police succeeded to corner the suspect in a home on Quigley Drive at around 9:45 p.m. Staff Sergeant Roger Waidson, Detachment Commander, mentioned in a press release that “this is the best possible outcome for everyone involved.” He added that “I am sure the situation was very frightening for the citizens of Cochrane. I want to thank them for their assistance and cooperation throughout the incident.”
