The recent speeches held by the leadership of Conservatives, Liberals and New Democrats, which largely include partisan jabs, policy promises and the lure of tax breaks, are all proving that even though the Election Day is 13 months away, they have begun their election campaigns to win over Canadians.

During a keynote speech on Thursday, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair revealed that the New Democrats would deliver “real change” compared to the years of Liberal and Conservative rule that have seen incomes stagnate and families fall behind. He stressed that “Canadians need a team that’s ready to work for them,” adding that “Conservatives have abandoned the most basic responsibilities of government.” In addition to that. Mr. Mulcair also criticized federal Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau, without even naming him as he echoed a criticism levelled by the Conservatives that the Liberal leader isn’t ready to lead the nation. Mulcair alleged that “I’m sorry, prime minister just isn’t an entry-level job,” adding that “after nine long years of Conservative policies, Canadians just can’t afford to wait for someone who’s getting ready to take on Stephen Harper.” He pointed out that “we’re taking on Stephen Harper and his policies right now.”

Meanwhile on the other hand, Finance Minister Joe Oliver was present in Toronto to unveil a cut to employment insurance premiums for small businesses. This is the first of a series of tax breaks expected from the Conservatives as the federal announces to have returned to surplus.
