Péladeau Says He’s Not Answerable to Journalists’ Questions

Often condemned for criticizing and taunting his fellow politicians from the safety of his personal Facebook page and ducking questions from reports afterward, Péladeau has once again stated that he does not really need to address the media in order to communicate with the voters of his St-Jérôme riding. During an encounter with reporters in the hallway, Péladeau said that “I don’t have to answer questions from journalists.”

Habitual of his controversial use of Facebook page, Péladeau started another debate on Monday in retraction to a motion adopted by the Liberals and Coalition Avenir Québec 15 days ago to the effect an MNA cannot own a large media company. In the post, Péladeau called the motion illegal and “heinous.” Criticizing CAQ Leader François Legault, Péladeau mentioned that he should know that a Quebec and Canadian Charter of Rights exists to ensure citizens likes him are not abused in this manner. Moreover, Péladeau accused Legault of being a hypocrite for trying to recruit him to the CAQ after leaving the PQ and described him as an “accountant who can’t count.”

Whereas in response to Péladeau’s Facebook posts, CAQ MNA François Bonnardel mentioned on Monday that Péladeau is always “hiding behind his keyboard” rather than answering questions from the media. Consequently, arriving to a Parti Québécois caucus on Tuesday, Péladeau shared that he accidently discovered Facebook when his organizers set up an account after he plunged into politics. Explaining that he started using it in hospital after his bicycle accident and “I find it a very efficient way to communicate.”
