Charges laid in the murders of Jesse James and Emmanuel Amoah in Edmonton

After a lengthy and involved investigation, Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section detectives have laid a dozen charges against six people in relation to the homicides of Jesse James and Emmanuel Amoah in September, 2010.

Charged in relation to both the Jesse James and Emmanuel Amoah homicides are:

18-year-old male (young offender at the time of the offence), charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count of offering an indignity to a dead body.
Mahamed Abdulle, 19, charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count of offering an indignity to a dead body.

Charged in relation to the Jesse James homicide only:

Jason Kadeem Williams, 19, was charged with one count of second degree murder
Christopher Macoon-Evans, 21, was charged with one count of second degree murder

Charged in relation to the Emmanuel Amoah homicide only:

18-year-old male (young offender at the time of the offense), charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of offering an indignity to a dead body.
16-year-old male, charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of offering an indignity to a dead body.

This was an unprecedented investigation that utilized up to 60 officers during the course of the investigation. Officers from areas including Homicide Section, Surveillance Unit, Edmonton Drug and Gang Unit, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, Tactical Section, Robbery Unit, and the Targeted Offenders Section all played key roles in solving these cases.

Background: Around 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, police were called to a parking lot on the 300 block of Saddleback Road after residents reported hearing shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male in a residential parking lot. The deceased male has been identified as 23-year-old Jesse Lee James of Edmonton. He is known to police and this is not believed to be a random incident.

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, Edmonton Police Service officers began an investigation into the discovery of human remains located near Ellerslie Road and 17 Street SW. An autopsy was conducted and the victim was identified as 19-year-old Emmanuel Amoah of Edmonton. The death is being investigated as a homicide and autopsy results have not been released.
