The Toronto Police Services Board has announced to have decided not to take action against the chair, Alok Mukherjee, in light of two recent controversial photos posted on his Facebook page. The police oversight board hosted a meeting with its three new members, including Mayor John Tory, on Monday.

According to the briefing provided to the media afterwards, the private meeting took place in the morning and discussed two separate photos that appeared on Mr. Mukherjee’s Facebook page. In a letter explaining the board’s decisions, acting vice-chair Dhun Noria stated that “the board noted that the chair’s written submission recognized an error in judgment, expressed his sincere regret and satisfactorily explained his intent and purpose in the posting.” Ms. Noria alleged that “upon its consideration and deliberation on this matter, the board decided that no further action was required.”

In addition to that, Ms. Noria explained to have considered two Facebook posts that appeared on Mr. Mukherjee’s page in the past two years. The first post compared Mr. McCormack demand for chair’s resignation with the number of people killed by American police to the number killed by Islamic State militants. Whereas, the second controversial post made a light of domestic abuse with a screenshot of National Post article “marriage is like a deck of cards” and a comment saying “in the beginning, all you need is two hearts and a diamond. By the end, you wish you had a club and a spade.”
