A recent warning issued by the Environment Canada has cautioned about a developing low pressure system that is anticipated to produce winds of 60 km/h, along with gusts anywhere up to 90 km/h, as a cold front tracks east across southern Ontario tonight. Wind warnings are usually issued by the agency when there is significant risk of associated damage, including downed trees and power outages.

In the official advisory issued by Environment Canada, it was said that “the very strong winds will continue for a few hours after the passage of the front, then very slowly ease off a little by Christmas morning.” Furthermore, it was added that “a few gusts of 100 km/h will be quite likely in exposed areas, in regions near the Great Lakes, and over higher ground as well.” It was explained that the weather system currently prevailing over the western part of Kentucky is expected to develop more as it travels north across Lake Huron on Christmas Eve. Environment Canada issued the wind alert for majority of southern Ontario, where motorists travelling for the holidays were advised to adjust their driving conditions accordingly.

In addition to that, Environment Canada also cautioned that wind gusts would be strong enough to cause tree damage that might lead to local power outages, damage to buildings and more. Consequently, the winds are also anticipated to toss any loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
