The New Your Police Commissioner, Bill Bratton, has confirmed in his recent appearance that NYPD is on complete high alert due to a recently uploaded video threat by Islamic State extremists. According to the officials, the video was posted on Twitter by the Islamic State on Saturday, which basically urged their followers to attack police officers and soldiers in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and France.

During a TV appearance on Monday, Bratton stressed that the NYPD is taking these threats seriously because “there are a number of people who are in the process of being radicalized. Something like this can be the last straw to move them forward.” In his remarks, Bratton alleged that “additionally, they are continually working to attract new recruits.” In addition to that, the NYPD’s deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism, John Miller, has circulated a memo in response to the ISIS video, which refreshed a previous mid-September call that ignited a series of attacks in Canada and a hatchet attack against NYPD officers in October.

In the memo circulated to NYPD officers, they were advised to remain “extra vigilant” and “pay attention to your surroundings and pay close attention to approaching vehicles. Pay close attention to people as they approach and look at their hands.” Bratton confirmed that the agency’s counterterrorism officers and civilian analysts are currently looking into the Paris attacks on the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper in order to learn from those incidents and better protect New York.
