Several media outlets report that soon-to-retire Toronto police chief, Bill Blair, is being offered political candidacy but he has chosen to remain reserved about his possible political ambitions. According to the rumors mentioned in various reports, Chief Blair has been offered to run in the next federal election by both the Liberals and the Conservatives.
In response to the recently increased rumor mongering, Chief Blair’s spokesman, Mark Pugash, highlighted the Chief’s remarks he made during the holidays. Pugash explained on Wednesday that the chief has already mentioned that he will focus on his job to lead the Toronto force until his contract expires, in April, but that he has “many, many decades in public service and he would like to continue in some form of public service” after he retires his badge. Pugash stressed that “he won’t be discussing anything while he is still chief of police.”
Whereas commenting on the recent situation, Toronto Mayor John Tory mentioned on Wednesday that “that people were making a story where there wasn’t one.” However, Tory’s press secretary, Amanda Galbraith, later clarified that the remarks were related to the chief being focused on his job and the mayor had not spoken to Chief Blair about the political rumours. Addressing the audience at the Dairy Farmers of Ontario annual general meeting at the Royal York Hotel, Mayor Tory stated that “I am confident, just from the time I’m taking up dealing with him, that he’s applying himself completely to being the chief of police, for the City of Toronto and that’s exactly what he should be doing.”
Yay, I’m glad he is going to stay quite. I can’t.
