Former journalist who just resigned from her position at TVA last week, Pascale Dery, has announced to have officially joined the Conservative party of Canada on Wednesday. Addressing the press in a news conference, Dery alleged that “in Quebec, we need a voice, a voice for this government.” Dery stated that “this government is very strong. They have a lot of accomplishments and a good record and we need to convey that message.”

According to Dery, she was initially approached by the party last year but had not made a decision to run for nomination in the Mont-Royal riding until a few months back. Dery has already received endorsement and support by the public safety minister, Steven Blaney, who said that “she’s inspiring.” Sitting aside Dery at the news conference, Blaney alleged that “she’s a young mother. she speaks many languages. she’s what Canada has best to offer.”

Mont-Royal is known to be a liberal stronghold and a majority Anglophone riding. Additionally, Dery will also have a difficult run since in the last federal election, the Tories came in second and some political analysts even accused of Conservatives of trying to woo the francophone vote. Admitting the situation, Ms. Déry said in an interview “for the last few years, I have witnessed what has been said and written about the Tories as a journalist,” adding that “frankly, I think we really need to change this bad perception, this poor perception that the Tories have in Quebec.”
