Controversial Conservative MP, Eve Adams, has announced to change parties and join the federal Liberal party to cross the floor on Monday. Adams made the announcement during a press conference with Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau, on Monday morning in Ottawa.

Most recently, Adams had tried to seek Tories nomination for the new riding of Oakville North-Burlington but her then-fiance, Dimitri Soudas, was accused of interference in her nomination campaign as he was the executive director of the federal Conservatives. Due to growing controversies, Adams announced to withdraw from the nomination race citing health reasons. Adams has now announced her plans to seek Liberal’s nomination in a riding in the Greater Toronto Area.

In her remarks, Adams alleged that the change has come after a period of “difficult reflection.” She stated that the Conservative party “no longer shares my values” and “I am very concerned for the direction our country is heading in under Stephen Harper, and I strongly believe that it is time for a leader who can steer Canada in a more positive, productive direction. I believe that leader is Justin Trudeau.” She stated that “I’m leaving behind a party that I have faithfully served for 25 years.”

Adams confirmed to have informed Prime Minister Stephen of her decision earlier on Monday. Whereas, Liberal leader Trudeau stated that “we are growing the Liberal party caucus and representing the increasing number of Canadians that are dissatisfied” with the Harper government.
