Ontario’s St. George town has brought Christmas home early in order to give a terminally-ill seven-year-old, Evan Leversage, the festive feeling since he might not be able to make it to December 25. The arrangements ranged from fake snow swirling in the air to a Christmas parade across the street outside his home. The boy suffers from an inoperable brain tumour.
Ridding on a sleigh with Jolly Old Saint Nick, Evan became part of the 25-float procession. All the volunteers had come out to take part in the arrangement even though the temperature had sunk to low teens. In addition to all the arrangements, a movie crew also blanketed the front lawn of the family’s home with fake snow. According to the Ontario Provincial Police, more than 7,000 people attended the event including the neighbours, who placed festive lights around their homes, and shop-owners, who decorated their store-fronts in red and green.
Brandy King, owner of a shop nearby, mentioned that “I would like to think that if something this severe was happening in my own family, that I’d have the help and support of my community.” Meanwhile, a neighbour, Ken Harber, pointed out that so many people are present outside their home just to make sure that Evan has his one last Christmas. He highlighted that “it’s a sad matter that this could be his last Christmas,” adding that “but it certainly shows that there are an awful lot of good people out there and he’s touched our hearts immensely.”
