POSTGAME QUOTES

MIKE BABCOCK POSTGAME: DECEMBER 10, 2016

On the performance tonight:

Our first period, we didn’t do anything. We didn’t win any battles, we didn’t skate. I thought we were way better in the second – we skated and had much more of the play. In the third period obviously it was great to get the win. [Andersen] played real well, especially early in the game, for us. He gave them the one there at the end of the second but was able to battle hard in the third.

On holding a lead in a road win:

I never thought much about that, it’s just winning the game. We feel we’ve been getting better and the last three games, the first period kind of did us in – we didn’t start on time. It was nice to see that we were able to hold on. It still wasn’t the kind of start we wanted but we didn’t give up the goals – maybe because of Andy, but also because the guys battled. Then we were able to execute a little bit.

On William Nylander:

Huge. We wanted to put Brown with Kadri but I thought [Nylander] was skating right from the get-go. His buddy is Pastrnak over there who’s obviously playing real well. It’s always nice to play well against your buddy and he stepped up tonight and was important for us.

On the goaltender bending but not breaking:

I thought he did a good job, especially early. The play with the puck there in the second and then he really had to battle. I thought he did a good job. [Antoine] Bibeau gets his first start tomorrow so that’ll be fun too.

FREDERIK ANDERSEN POSTGAME: DECEMBER 10, 2016

On how he felt postgame:

Pretty good. I’m getting used to it and this last week has been pretty easy. There’s some things in the schedule where you get more time to rest and take advantage. It’s been pretty good.

On his 6-0-0 record vs. Boston:

I don’t know, it could be a lot of things. The front plan is building and obviously it gets it up for that pretty good.

On the first period of the game:

I don’t think we gave up too much even though we didn’t really produce anything. I think we got through the period, 0-0 is pretty good for a road game. We came a lot better in the second and third so that was good we were able to turn it around.

On the team’s ability to clean up rebounds:

It was good. If we can clear rebounds out of the crease and slot areas it’s always good. That way we can produce offence and get out of the zone.

AUSTON MATTHEWS POSTGAME: DECEMBER 10, 2016

On the team overcoming a slow start:

We want to play a full 60 minutes every night. Definitely that first period, I think towards the end, we started to get back towards our game and playing better positionally. Their first line is obviously very skilled and they were getting behind our D and making a lot of plays. I think that was a big key for us in the first period to change.

On the play of Frederik Andersen:

Feddy was our best player on the ice. He’s making huge saves, especially in that first period when things weren’t rolling for us. We were giving up a lot of opportunities and he stood on his head for us. It’s huge by him and gave us all a chance.

JAMES van RIEMSDYK POSTGAME: DECEMBER 10, 2016

On Frederik Andersen:

Freddy made some big saves in the first to keep it a game and we kind of picked up our game as the game went on. I thought the third period was our best period.

On the power play’s ability to move the puck tonight:

I think we moved the puck around and tried to make plays towards the net and get them compressed towards the net to get those second chances.

On closing out a tight game on the road:

That’s kind of been something we’ve struggled with so far this year, but hopefully we can use that and build off that.

On winning in Boston:

It’s a hard building to win in and, like you said, hopefully we can use that as a positive and build off of it to keep growing our game.
