POSTGAME QUOTES:

HEAD COACH MIKE BABCOCK

On the absence of Rielly in tonight’s game:

I don’t think Rielly made us not compete hard enough tonight or not take care of the puck or not stop on defence. I don’t think he had anything to do with that. Obviously the back end was in trouble lots tonight. We weren’t very good. I thought Gauthier’s line was our best group. When we’re good enough our goaltender gave us a chance – at 3-2 we’re still in a good spot in a game we don’t deserve to be in. Our power play has been really good and today they didn’t really work. We’ve got to make a better play than give up another breakaway and we gave up a lot tonight. We weren’t very good. We didn’t skate yesterday so we should have been fresh and we should have had jump. Obviously we shouldn’t have done that, we weren’t mentally sharp. We’ll get that fixed tomorrow and get right for Ottawa.

On if he’s considering giving Andersen additional time off in the second half:

No, I’m not thinking about spelling him and I’m not worried about his workload.

On Corrado’s return to the lineup:

What I’ll do is just watch the game and go from there instead of me saying anything tonight.

On if there’s an update on Rielly’s status:

No.

FRANK CORRADO (2 SHOTS, 11:36 TOI)

On his return to the lineup tonight:

A little inconsistent. A couple of plays I’d like to have back for sure, but not bad.

On what could have improved his performance:

A puck bouncing here or there or settle the puck down and make a play instead of just trying to whack it over. It is what it is, I’ve just got to put it past me and move on.

On how he felt mentally:

Pretty good. It was a good start to the game, I was moving my feet, making the right plays, I had my guy in the D zone a lot of the time. A couple of plays I’d like to have back for sure.

On if there’s added pressure in a return to the lineup:

Maybe a little bit because you haven’t been in so you want to play as well as you can. You can’t – mistakes happen, it’s a game of mistakes. You move on from it, you put it behind you and you get ready for the next one.

JAKE GARDINER (3 TAKEAWAYS, 26:20 TOI)

On tonight’s game:

It definitely wasn’t the way we’ve been playing. I think we can be better in all areas. When you go down like that it’s tough to come back.

On taking on an increased role tonight:

Like I said earlier today, when one of your top defencemen – Morgan [Rielly] – goes down, it’s going to change a lot for everyone and different guys have to step up.

On what to take away from tonight’s game:

Just move on and go to work on Saturday. We’ve been really hot lately and it’s probably time for a reality check. Just get back to work.

ZACH HYMAN (1 GOAL, 16:41 TOI)

On his goal:

I just tried to forecheck the guy hard, cut back, kind of stick-lifted him, got underneath him, got my body in front of him and waited out Lundqvist.

On tonight’s performance:

We’ve got to start stronger. We weren’t on top of their D, they had a lot of shots on Freddy [Andersen] – Freddy kept us in the game for most of the game there. We’ve just got to be better. We’ve got to be better on the forecheck, get pucks back and just play better on the cycle.

On the absence of Rielly:

He’s a great player, you’re going to miss him no matter what team you’re playing against. It’s a good team we played against and we definitely miss him.
