Carol Huynh Wins her Second Olympic Medal

Wrestler Carol Huynh added a second Olympic medal to her collection today, taking bronze in the women’s 48 kg division.

“I feel amazing. I feel happy. I feel relieved,” said Huynh. “At the end of that match, I was feeling elated that I’d won another medal for Canada but, at the same time, I wanted to go out with a little more flare. I didn’t want it to end in two clinches. I’ll take it. I want that bronze medal.”

Huynh went 3-1 to take bronze, defeating Senegal’s Isabelle Sambou by a score of 3-0 in the bronze medal match.

“Carol Huynh is a legend and she proved it again tonight,” said 2012 Chef de Mission Mark Tewksbury. “She battled back from disappointment, refocused and dedicated herself to that bronze medal match. That kind of determination is what makes her such a great champion.”

“I’m very proud of Carol and her bronze medal performance,” said Assistant Chef de Mission Sylvie Bernier. “She wrestled four long matches in one day and, at the end of it all, she earned her spot on the Olympic podium.”

“Carol Huynh showed her champion’s pedigree tonight,” said Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “Competing in such a demanding sport, in such a tough discipline, she remained focused and came away with a spot on her second Olympic podium.”
