AFC U-16 Championship 2011Song Duan scored twice as China made it two wins out of two at the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship 2011 with a 3-0 victory over Australia on Saturday.

Song Yuqing opened the scoring at the Jiangning Sports Centre in with an 18th minute penalty and Song Duan made it two with a cool low finish just before the half-hour mark.

She added another early in the second half to round off a flowing move and put the game to bed.

The win was not as emphatic as their opening 8-0 thrashing of Thailand, but was still thoroughly convincing and kept the hosts firmly in the hunt for top spot in the six-team round-robin tournament.

Australia went down 4-0 to Korea Republic in their opening game, but gave as good as they got in the early stages here, with Natalie Tobin especially involved in the midfield.

The hosts, though, were looking the more dangerous and almost got through after a neat one-two between Li Mengwen and Wang Yaping sent the latter clear, but the defence shut the door in the nick of time.

China tested goalkeeper Penelope Edmonds for the first time in the 16th minute when Elizabeth’s Ralston’s clearance went only as far as Song Duan, who advanced on the area and fired in a shot which Edmonds did well to tip round the near post.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 27th minute with Song Duan running onto a through-ball from the left and cutting into the area before sliding a low angled finish under Edmonds.

Cheered on by some vocal visiting support, Australia had a penalty claim of their own waved away when Amy Harrison tumbled in the area, but Fan Xuewei’s side were well in control at the break.

China, who scored six times in the second half against Thailand, made it three in the 57th minute thanks to Song Duan’s second.

Minutes after Checker had cleared Lu Yueyun’s poked effort off the line, the China midfielder played a beautifully intricate move with Song Duan which carved open the defence.

And Song Duan finished it off in style with a placed shot past Edmonds and into the corner.

The keeper then produced an excellent parry to deny Li as Australia pressed for a consolation, with captain Alisha Bass trying her luck from long range, but they could not find a way through.
