 About the game…

Credit to the guys in the second half, they worked hard, put a lot of pressure and deserved the goal. The majority of the team really stood up tonight.

About their last performances…

We are learning a lot about each other. We are learning about players, about different situations… We got to put together 90 minute performances. Playing well during 45 minutes is not good enough. But, we’ll get there. We’ll keep working hard and get mentally stronger.

About the preparation for their next game…

We got a lot of work to do for the next two weeks before our next game. It’s going to be really beneficial to us. We’ve got to get better in every department and we will.

About Robert Earnshaw…

He’s been fantastic. He talks to the players, he teaches and educates them. He initiates pressure. We are really happy to have a guy like him on the team, who leads by example.

Darren O’Dea- Defender, Toronto FC

About the game…

We didn’t really started well, we started okay. We certainly didn’t play well in the first half. It wasn’t good enough. We put right in the second half, but there was a lot to decline by then.

About the penalty…

I haven’t seen the situation, but whether it’s a penalty or not, it will teach Ashtone (Morgan) a lesson. It’s more a question of experience. I think it was a soft contact, so I don’t think the penalty call was right.

Robert Earnshaw- Forward, Toronto FC

About the game…

I think today was all about the first half. It was difficult for us. We made it difficult for ourselves; we didn’t work enough to close Montreal down. And in the second half, we did it. So, I think this is the difference. They knew how to play against us. In the first half, they created more chances and at the end they had good chances, very good chances, and they scored two goals. That made the difference.

About his start to the season…

It’s getting better. I am just trying to play well for my team. Scoring goals makes things even better. I am happy but not happy that we lost today. It’s hard to take, so we want to work harder and do better, if we want to win games.

Marco Schallibaum- Head Coach, Montreal Impact

On the game

We had a good first half, but suffered a little in the second half. We knew Toronto was a good team and it wasn’t going to be an easy game. We scored two important goals and we played well. The second half, we suffered, but we fought to the end. Maybe we had a bit of nerves. We played in front of 40,000 people and we won three in a row and they haven’t been in this position before.

On struggling a little after losing Nesta to injury…

It’s natural that we had to adjust. Nesta has a lot of experience and he has the trust of his teammates. Then we had to make quite a few changes, with Jeb (Brovksy) moving to the right side, Hassoun (Camara) playing central and Dennis (Iapichino) coming on for Nesta, they needed some time to get equated with each other.

On adjustments needed for next game…

It’s a little bit early to analyze the game. The players were unhappy in the locker room and you see it on their faces that we didn’t play our best game. That’s a good sign. Now we’ll take a bit of time and analyze the tape and get ready for next week.

On Andres Romero’s first start…

I thought he did well. He created the penalty shot when he penetrated the box. He is versatile, as you saw we used him on both sides. When he is 100% in shape, he’ll be even better.

Troy Perkins- Goalkeeper, Montreal Impact

On winning a not-so-pretty game…

For me, at the end of the day, I don’t care how we win; its three points and it’s against Toronto.

On three good performances in goal …

I’ve really tried to focus on having a good performance and not worry too much about the results. I think we have to keep moving forward in that manner. We focus on e performance, and not worry about the results

On his teammates commenting about his calm demeanour in goal…

I try to stay pretty calm, but my wife might say otherwise (laughs). As a goalkeeper, you can’t afford to lose control of your emotions, so you have to be able to say calm and keep a level head.

Patrice Bernier- Midfielder, Montreal Impact

On the game…

The first half went well. If we kept the same tempo, we could have probably scored another goal. But we let them back in the game with a few mistakes. They put a lot of effort in the second half and they got a penalty that brought them back in. But we are happy that we got the three points.

On holding the lead

We showed a lot of character and to hold the lead. But today we suffered a little. Maybe we came out at half time a little too comfortable, which was dangerous against a good side like Toronto. But with the win, we now have three victories and even in games where we might not have a full 90 minutes, we find a way.

On Toronto having the Impact’s number…

They may have had our number last season, but this is whole new year. We were at home and I think it had more to do with us, how we felt the game was ours a little too early and we let them back in the game.
