Final U.S. WNT Match Before Start of NWSL Season Will Be Broadcast on NBC Sports Network at 8 p.m. PT

The U.S. Women’s National Team will face China PR on Thursday, April 10, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The USA’s final match before the start of the National Women’s Soccer League season will kickoff at 8 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network. 

The match in San Diego will come four days after the USA meets China on April 6 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. (3 p.m. MT). The USA has faced China more than any other nation besides Canada and the meetings in April will mark the 51^st and 52^nd between the long-time rivals, both of whom have hosted two Women’s World Cup tournaments. The USA and China last met during the 2013 Algarve Cup in Portugal, a 5-0 victory for the Americans.

The matches will also serve as Women’s World Cup qualifying preparation for China, which begins the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Vietnam in mid-May, a tournament that will send the top five finishers to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

This will be the first match at Qualcomm Stadium for the U.S. Women. The USA has not played in San Diego since a 2010 victory against Mexico at Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego, which hosted all four previous San Diego appearances.

Additional Notes:

– The USA has an all-time record of 30-8-12 against China PR.

– Over the course of three months this year (Feb.-March-April), China will have sent its Under-17, Under-20 and senior Women’s national teams to the USA to play their respective age group teams.

– U.S. defender Rachel Van Hollebeke hails from Del Mar, Calif., north of San Diego and grew up playing with the San Diego Surf.

– Christen Press and Sydney Leroux lead the USA in scoring this year with three goals each, while three players have scored twice.

– The U.S. team, which is ranked No. 1 in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, is 3-0-1 in 2014 and has scored 17 goals while allowing only one.

– China is 19^th in the current FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

– This will be the 24^th match all-time for the USA in Southern California. The USA did not play a match in Southern California for the first 11 years of its existence, with the first coming on April 20, 1996, against Holland at Cal State Fullerton.

– The USA and China are playing in the 2014 Algarve Cup in Portugal, but are in different groups.
