Davis Cup by BNP Paribas draw set for Canada and Israel this weekend

The official draw for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie between Canada and Israel took place Thursday in Israel to determine the match-ups for the coming weekend. The tie will be contested on outdoor hard courts at Canada Stadium in Ramat Hasharon, Israel from September 16-18, 2011. 
                                  
The Miele Canadian Davis Cup squad consisting of Daniel Nestor (Toronto), Peter Polansky (Thornhill, Ontario), Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver) and Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ontario) will battle with Israel in two singles matches on Friday, a doubles match on Saturday and two reverse singles matches on Sunday. Miele Canadian Davis Cup team captain Martin Laurendeau will be at the helm this weekend.

“Reaching the World Group has been our goal since the start of the season and now we have one more tough challenge against Israel in order to hopefully achieve that goal,” said Laurendeau. “We are really happy with how the draw played out and extremely confident in our entire team here to come together and put forth their absolute best effort. We’re all really excited to be in this play-off position and are ready for tomorrow’s singles matches.” 
  
A win over Israel will advance the Canadian squad to the elite World Group for 2012. Only 16 teams entered in Davis Cup play qualify for World Group. The losing nation will remain in their zonal group for next year’s competition. 
  
Play will begin at 7:00 a.m. ET on Friday, September 16 with two singles matches. The doubles match will take place Saturday, September 17 at 8 a.m. ET and the remaining two singles matches will be on Sunday, September 18 at 7:30 a.m. ET. Live coverage of the matches on Friday and Saturday can be seen on Sportsnet ONE while Sunday’s matches will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet East, West, Pacific and Ontario.
