Tennis Canada announced Thursday that Rebecca Marino (Vancouver, BC) has withdrawn from Fed Cup for personal family matters. Marie-Ève Pelletier (Repentigny, QC) will replace her on the Miele Canadian Fed Cup team which also includes Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, QC), Sharon Fichman (Toronto, ON) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC). The squad will compete in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group I event set to be held from January 30 to February 4, 2012 in Curitiba, Brazil.
At 29 years of age, Pelletier is the veteran of the Canadian team. She made her Fed Cup debut in 2002, playing in 28 ties and maintaining a record of 22 wins and 13 losses. Pelletier is currently ranked no. 120 on the WTA doubles rankings and no. 322 in singles. .
Canada joins Argentina, the Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela on the clay courts in Curitiba, Brazil for the Americas Group I zonal event.
The participating nations will be divided into two groups of four teams. The winners of each group will then face off for the chance to take part in a World Group II playoff tie in April 2012 while the two lowest ranking teams will be sent to Group II of the Americas Zone in 2013.
