Filip Peliwo (Vancouver, BC) earned a spot in the junior Roland-Garros boys singles final on Friday in Paris. He will try and become the first Canadian to win a junior Grand Slam singles title.

Seeded fifth in the tournament, Peliwo took on Adam Pavlasek of the Czech Republic in the semifinals after Pavlasek knocked out World No. 1 Luke Saville in the quarter-finals. Peliwo was two points from defeat before coming back to post a 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-0 victory.

The 18-year-old hit five aces and committed just three unforced errors en route to the win. Peliwo will benefit from a day off before contesting the final on Sunday on the prestigious Philippe-Chatrier court. He will be in familiar territory having also played in the Australian Open junior boys final where fell in three sets to Luke Saville.

Peliwo is the first Canadian to reach two junior Grand Slam singles finals in the same year and is also the first Canadian since Philip Bester (Vancouver, BC) in 2006 to reach the junior boys singles championship at Roland-Garros.
