Aleksandra Wozniak to Play Venus Williams and Milos Raonic Set to Take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

The first Olympic wins for Canada were registered on Monday at the All-England Club as Canadians were perfect in their opening round matches.

In men’s singles, Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) defeated Tatsuma Ito of Japan 6-3, 6-4, his fifth straight win over Ito. He will next take on
fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France. The Frenchman beat Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci in three tough sets in his opening match.

Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) also advanced to round two with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over world no. 46 Marina Erakovic of New Zealand. Wozniak will meet American and Olympic gold medalist Venus Williams on Tuesday. The two players met earlier this year at the Somy Ericsson Open in Miami and Wozniak held a match point before falling in a third set tiebreaker.

The Canadian tandem of Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) and Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver, BC) completed a perfect day for Canada as they defeated Romanians Horia Tecau and Adrian Ungur 6-3, 7-6(9). Nestor and Pospisil will now face the third-seeded Serbian duo of Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic. Nestor is searching for a second Olympic medal after winning gold alongside Sébastien Lareau at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, Australia.
