One in seven people worldwide live with a disability. Yet, despite their numbers, people with disabilities – particularly women – remain invisible: neglected, abused and isolated, facing insurmountable obstacles to accessing justice and equal rights. Shantha Rau Barriga, Director of Disability Rights at Human Rights Watch, will share her experiences documenting violence against women and girls with disabilities in different parts of the world and some of the efforts underway to give these women a voice.

This lecture is part of the Gardiner Museum’s programming around the special exhibition Women, Art, & Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise, which tells the inspirational story of a group of women in the Deep South who achieved economic independence through making and selling pottery.

Lecture tickets: $15 General; $10 Gardiner Friends. To purchase, call 416.586.8080 or order online at http://www.gardinermuseum.on.ca/events/event/justice-for-women–girls-with-disabilities.
