Actress and filmmaker Nandita Das and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are at the 70th Cannes Film Festival for the curtain-raiser of their film, Manto.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be seen in the role of Saadat Hasan Manto. Rasika Duggal, who play’s Manto’s wife in Manto, had also joined them to present the film to the fraternity. Speaking about the film at the festival, Nandita Das said she had first read Manto’s stories during her college days. The stories were edgy yet truthful and contemporary.
Set in the 1940s, Manto is a biographical film that tells the true story of famed writer Saadat Hasan Manto. It is a joint production between HP Studios with Viacom 18 and Sameer Dixit of Movie Makers.
