On Day 2 of the second test match, Gary Ballance buried the criticism of his pre-match drinking binge with a superb century at Lord’s against India on Friday, after which the England trailed only 76 runs from the visitors’ first innings total of 295.
Ballance scored 110 and added 98 in a fifth-wicket stand with Moeen Ali (32) after Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an exceptional spell of swing bowling to rattle the English top order with a triple strike.
Bhuvneshwar bowled a long and wonderful spell of 10 overs up front to get rid of the English skipper Alastair Cook (10) and Sam Robson (17). Then after the lunch, he returned to take care of Ian Bell (16) to leave England worried at 70 for 3 on a grassy track that continued to offer assistance to the fast bowlers.
