A 57-year-old Oshawa cyclist killed in a collision

A 57-year-old Oshawa cyclist has passed away as a result of injuries suffered in collision with a motor vehicle in Oshawa last week.

On Thursday August 5, 2010 at approximately 9:54 a.m. officers from the Central East Division responded to a collision involving a cyclist and motorist at John Street West and Park Road North, in the City of Oshawa. The 57-year-old Oshawa resident was riding his bicycle northbound on Park Road North when he entered the intersection at John Street West on a red light. The cyclist passed a stationary vehicle waiting to turn southbound on Park Road, from John Street, and was struck by a westbound SUV vehicle being operated by a 66-year-old Oshawa resident. As a result of the collision, the male cyclist suffered what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene by EMS to Lakeridge Health Oshawa. The driver of the SUV was not injured. No charges have been laid.

The roadway was closed for a period of time while a Level II Collision Investigator gathered evidence.

On Friday August 6, 2010, at approximately 9 p.m. medical staff from Lakeridge Health Oshawa advised DRPS the 57-year-old victim had died as a result of his injuries. Next of kin was notified and at their request, the name of the victim is being withheld.

As a result of the fatality, the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit was notified and the investigation continues.
