At approximately 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Colchester Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) simultaneously executed Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrants at two separate Shubenacadie residences.

Two Shubenacadie men, aged 24 and 57, were arrested at a residence and remain police custody.

In the process of securing the second residence, an RCMP Police Service Dog was attacked by a large Bull Mastiff located on the property. The Mastiff attacked the police dog, biting its throat.

As a result of being unable to separate the two dogs and in an effort to get the mastiff to release the police dog, which was in danger of losing its life, a member of the ‘H’ Division Emergency Response Team (ERT) discharged a service pistol hitting and killing the mastiff.

The RCMP police service dog was rushed to a Veterinary Hospital in Truro where it was treated for puncture wounds and subsequently released.

RCMP remain on the scene conducting an extensive search of the properties, adjacent building and structures. Police are expected to complete their search until later this evening.
