Upon arrival police determined that a vehicle traveling in the north bound lane struck a lone cyclist who was traveling southward and attempted to turn left onto Cowichan Bay Road. The cyclist was believed to have died instantly.
The cyclist has been identified as Cowichan Valley resident Gregory Paul CURRAN 50 years of age.
A representative from the BC coroners service as well as a traffic collision analyst were called to the scene and the investigation into the collision is ongoing. Initial police attendance determined that the deceased was not wearing a helmet and was dressed in dark clothing at the time of the accident. There is no indication that the driver was under the influence of any alcohol or drug.
