On the 11th day of April 2011 members of the Ottawa Police Service Airport Division teamed up with members of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and intercepted a .22 caliber handgun as a result of their security screening processes inside the MacDonald/Cartier International Airport.

John Robert LAPONSEE was arrested for attempting to take a .22 caliber handgun with ammunition onto a domestic flight that had a final destination in Alberta.

LAPONSEE is facing several criminal code firearm offences which include the following:

• Careless transportation of a firearm Sec. 86(1) C.C.C.
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm Sec. 91(1) C.C.C.
• Possess firearm knowing no authority Sec. 92(1) C.C.C.
• Possess restricted firearm with ammunition Sec. 95(1) C.C.C.
• Attempt to commit indictable offence Sec. 463(b) C.C.C. (two counts)
