The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Section has charged an Ottawa male with multiple offences including 2 counts of Sexual Assault, 3 counts of Forcible Confinement, 4 counts of Theft Under $5000, 3 counts of Breach Of Recognizance, 1 count of Theft of Credit Card, 1 count of Criminal Harassment and 1 count of Intimidation.

Investigators linked 4 incidents between March 19 and May 1 in which young women were offered rides by a male in the Byward market and subsequently victimized. The victims, some of whom were sexually assaulted and had their cell phones stolen, were between the ages of 19 and 22 years and all incidents occurred in the early morning hours.

The Ottawa Police Service reminds young women and men to remain vigilant when out socializing with friends and that it is never a person’s fault if they are victimized while they are drinking.

For further information in this regard, The Ottawa Coalition To End Violence Against Women, Crime Prevention Ottawa, and the Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre will be launching a community-based research project examining the links between sexual violence, youth and drinking on May 19 at City Hall.

Magabi Lashury SULEIMAN, age 29, of Ottawa was arrested on May 9 and is to appear in court today
