A man’s life has been saved due to the heroic efforts of an off-duty firefighter and a 16-year-old female.

On Saturday November 5, 2011 at approximately 11:15 a.m., officers of Central West Division responded to an assist ambulance call in the vicinity of Rossland Road and Manning Road in Whitby. A 46-year-old male was jogging in the area when he collapsed. Witnesses were stopped at a stoplight when they observed the male collapse. An off-duty firefighter and a 16-year-old Whitby female rushed to render assistance to the male. The male was not breathing and had no pulse. Without hesitation, the two began CPR. EMS arrived on scene and took over treatment of the male. The male was transported to hospital and upon arrival was conscious and breathing.

Due to the courageous quick response of the firefighter and the teenager, the male’s life was saved. The modesty, poise and courage of the Whitby teenager were noted by officers on scene.
