TTC streetcar hits a pedestrian in Toronto

On Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at 12:52 a.m., police responded to a report of a collision on Spadina Avenue, south of Baldwin Street, involving a TTC streetcar and a pedestrian.

It is reported that:

– a 19-year-old man ran across Spadina Avenue, from the east side to the west side,

– he ran into the side of a northbound streetcar and was knocked to the ground.

He was taken to hospital with serious head and chest injuries.

The first officers attending the scene saw that the victim was wearing headphones attached to an electronic entertainment device.

Police would like to remind everyone that distractions come in many forms. Inhibiting your ability to hear in your surroundings can cause you to miss important information.
