The Vancouver Police Department has been asked by the Surrey RCMP to investigate an overnight incident after a 39 year old man died in police custody.

The man died in connection with an incident shortly before 11:00 p.m. on June 22nd, when two men were seen running in and out of traffic in the area of 160th Street and 88th Avenue. Surrey RCMP officers arrested one man, who soon began to show signs of medical distress. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The VPD Major Crime Section has taken over the investigation.
