Over the past two weeks, District 2 RCMP, working in collaboration with the Sûreté du Quebec, have successfully apprehended three people from Quebec for whom arrest warrants had been issued after they left New Brunswick and failed to appear in court to face charges.

"People may be under the impression that once they leave the province, they’re home free, but that is not the case," says Cpl. Jacques Cloutier. "We will cooperate with our partners in other jurisdictions in order to make sure these individuals are brought before the courts."

43-year-old Leonard McTear of Brigham, Quebec was apprehended and returned to New Brunswick after failing to appear in Burton Provincial Court on June 7, 2010 to face charges of possession of ecstasy and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. McTear was initially arrested and charged in New Brunswick in February 2010. He is currently being escorted back to New Brunswick and will appear in court at a later date.

40-year-old Quentin Hadlock of Brome Lake, Quebec was apprehended and returned to New Brunswick after having failed to appear in Burton Provincial Court on June 7, 2010 in connection to the same investigation. Upon his return to New Brunswick, Mr. Hadlock was released on $3,500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 30th, 2010 to set a trial date.

Another 48-year-old man was apprehended for failing to appear in court to face charges related to the sexual assault of a minor. The suspect in question is currently being escorted back to New Brunswick by District 2 RCMP members and will be appearing in court at a later date.
