29 year old Toronto man dies at the hands of drunk driver

On Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 7:03 a.m., police were called to the scene of a fatal collision at the intersection of Grantbrook Street/Charlton Street.

It is alleged that:

– a Chevrolet Malibu was travelling westbound on Charlton Street at high speed and failed to stop for a stop sign,

– a Dodge Caliber was travelling northbound on Grantbrook Street and struck the Malibu in the intersection,

– the Malibu then struck a concrete hydro pole and a tree before stopping.

As a result of the collision, a 29-year-old man, who was a rear-seat passenger in the Malibu, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 60-year-old driver of the Dodge and the 61-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and a second passenger in the Malibu, both 29-year-old men, were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Malibu was arrested and is under investigation for alcohol-related offences.
