Three men arrested in a marihuana grow-op raid in Vaughan

Officers working out of the Drugs and Vice Unit have arrested three people in connection with the discovery of $1.1 million in marihuana at an indoor marihuana grow operation in the City of Vaughan.

In the early part of July 2010, officers received information about a commercial property on Alex Avenue in relation to an indoor marihuana grow operation. Through investigation, officers determined the property was operating as a marihuana grow operation and a suspect was identified.

On Wednesday, August 3, 2010, Drugs and Vice Unit officers executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at the Alex Avenue location. A fully-functioning indoor marihuana grow operation was discovered within and more than 959 marihuana plants were seized, along with 100 pounds of drying marihuana with a street value of approx. $1.1 million. Three accused were arrested at the property without incident.

CHARGED:

• Guiseppe BASILE, 64, of Vaughan
• Jean-Paul DUGUAY, 64, of Vaughan
• Francesco DALESSANDRO, 62, of Vaughan

CHARGES INCLUDE:

• Production of a Controlled Substance
• Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

All three accused will appear sometime today before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket for a bail hearing.
