Police quickly arrested an armed male suspect who fled the scene with cash following a robbery of a taxi driver in Oshawa this morning.

On Friday August 13, 2010 at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers responded to a call from a distressed taxi driver to the area of Porter Street and Cedar Street in Oshawa. The 58-year-old victim reported a male suspect flagged her down for a fare moments earlier. Once in the taxi the lone suspect directed the female driver to take a detailed route. The suspect grabbed the victim and held scissors to her throat threatening to kill her. The suspect forcefully removed money from the victim before fleeing on foot from the cab into a nearby forested area. The victim was not physically injured and did not require medical attention.

Police members including K-9 searched the area locating the suspect and seizing the stolen property including the weapon.

David GIBSON, age 25, of no fixed address is charged with: Robbery; Assault with a Weapon; Utter Threats to Cause Death; Weapons Dangerous and Possession Stolen Property under $5000. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
