Woman charged with arson in a early morning fire in Edmonton

Members of the Edmonton Police Service have charged a woman in connection with the fire early this morning at a northeast Edmonton apartment complex.

An 18-year-old female resident of the apartment complex has been charged with one count of arson with disregard for human life. The woman was transported to hospital this morning as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.

Emergency services responded to the fire call at an apartment complex at 13115 – 69 Street shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2010. The building was evacuated, however, two people had to be taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. The fire started in a basement suite and spread throughout the building. Damages are estimated to be approximately $300,000 to the building and its contents.
