The mayoral candidate in the third-position according to a latest Forum poll, Olivia Chow has mentioned that the decrease in her support could be due to her decision to not comment on the mayor and his brother’s latest political move. Chow stated that she deliberately chose not to speak about Councillor Doug Ford’s replacement of Mayor Rob Ford in the municipal election on Friday because she didn’t want to “make life even harder for the Ford family.”

Mayor Ford’s brother, Doug Ford, officially disclosed the decision to enter the mayoral race on behalf of his brother on Friday, who instead chose to run as a councillor. Mayor Ford was brought to the hospital this week due to an abdominal tumour. According to the Forum poll conducted on Friday, John Tory was in clear lead with 41 per cent, followed by Doug Ford with 34 per cent, and Olivia Chow in third position with only 19 per cent.

Addressing the media on Friday at the official opening of the re-election office of Ward 19 Councillor Mike Layton, Chow stressed that she “can’t wait for the Ford era to end.” She mentioned that “my message to Doug Ford is this: You said you can’t wait to leave city hall and I agree with you.” Chow highlighted that “Doug Ford voted to cut the TTC budget, just like his brother,” and “we have endured four years of Rob Ford, and the damage was substantial.”
