The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is investigating a double stabbing following the arrest of an Esgenoôpetitj First Nation man. Police responded to a call on September 18, 2014 at approximately 12 p.m. that a man had stabbed two other men on the First Nation. Both men, one 25 years old and one 33, were treated at hospital and released. A 21-year-old man was later arrested.

John Craig Metallic, from Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, appeared in Miramichi Provincial Court on September 19 and was charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of failing to comply with an undertaking. He was remanded into custody. Metallic is scheduled to appear back in court on September 22.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Northeast District RCMP.
