After multiple delays in the launch, Toronto’s last-minute mayoral candidate Doug Ford has officially announced to finally launch his campaign this weekend, alleging that he will spend Saturday canvassing Etobicoke and make his debate debut next week.

Mr. Ford registered at the last minute last week and replaced his ailing brother Mayor Rob Ford, when he informed reporters that he will launch his campaign within a day or two. However, later that date was pushed further to the end of the week as he alleged to be focusing on his brother instead. However, Ford finally mentioned on Friday that he is all set to begin the campaign. He gave these remarks on his way into Mount Sinai Hospital, explaining that he would begin door-knocking on Saturday. Mr. Ford stated that “we’re going to be out in Ward 2, starting off in our home turf and working across the city.”

Ward 2 in Etobicoke is the same area that Mr. Ford currently represents and the same area where Mayor Ford plans to run for council after withdrawing his own mayoral bid to undergo treatment for a rare form of cancer. In his remarks, Mr. Ford revealed that his platform would be quite similar to Rob’s, who just a day earlier offered his endorsement for Doug from hospital. Ford mentioned that “considering I was part of putting Rob’s platform together – part of the team for four years – we’re going to keep it pretty well the same.”
