Quebec-based fashion retailer, La Maison Simons (Simons), mentioned in a recent press release that it plans to open new stores in Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Mississauga and Gatineau over a two-year period starting from 2015. Currently, Simons has nine stores, including one in West Edmonton and remaining eight in Quebec, and business offices in Hong Kong, London and Paris.

During a telephonic interview, Simons’ CEO, Peter Simons, stated that “we had a vision of what we wanted to accomplish and be able to do in terms of design and innovation in retail, and I felt that we had to enlarge.” Simons acknowledged that we’re still a very small company compared to the competition today, alleging that we still had to expand our footprint in order to achieve freedom and flexibility to accomplish what we wanted to do. The expansion will definitely involve new hiring but the retailer refrained from specifying how many new jobs would be created.

The company has revealed that its new stores would range in size between 80,000 to 113,000 square feet and will be constructed with both new and existing structures. It plans to open the first store at Les Promenades Gatineau in Quebec in August 2015 and the second at Park Royal in West Vancouver in October 2015. Thereafter, two more new stores will be opened in 2016, one at Square One in March in Mississauga and the other at the Rideau Centre in Ottawa in August. Whereas, the fifth store is scheduled to open at The Core in Calgary in 2017.
