Atlantic Prepared Food Ltd. of Alberton, PEI is expanding a voluntary recall of various food products because they may be contaminated with Listeria. The warning covers certain sandwiches, subs, wraps, burgers, breakfast muffins and bagels.
The products are sold under a number of brand names including Sub Delicious, Circle K and Country Morning and any that say "Prepared by: APFL." The best-before date is Dec. 6, 2010 and the establishment number is 514. The products are known to have been distributed in P.E.I. and Nova Scotia and may have also reached the other Atlantic Provinces.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the affected products contain processed cheese slices recalled by Saputo Inc. of Montreal.
The agency has stated that there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the P.E.I. products.
It should be noted that food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but may cause listeriosis. The food-borne illness can cause high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
