Environment Canada has announced to have placed Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, along with most of New Brunswick, under blizzard warnings as a low pressure system starts to rave in from the United States’ eastern seaboard. The federal agency imposed a winter storm alert with a blizzard warning on Monday, saying that snow and blowing snow will make visibility “near zero” at times on Tuesday.

The federal agency predicted that heavy snow will begin on Tuesday morning and move across the region throughout the day. It mentioned that “very strong northeast winds gusting to 90 km/h with possible higher gusts will give blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities on Tuesday,” adding that snowfall amounting between 15 and 30 cm is expected. Meanwhile, the agency also warned that parts of Nova Scotia are anticipated to face a mix of snow and ice pellets in the afternoon. It said that “a single person walking through the snow is harder to find than a stranded car or truck.”

Consequently, N.S. Power has already announced to be on high alert to face any power outage. It said that “Nova Scotia Power has a full complement of crews, as well as additional contract crews, on standby across the province. They will be ready to respond as needed to restore power to our customers safely and as quickly as possible,” adding that “as the storm proceeds through Tuesday, un-cleared roads may make some damaged areas inaccessible, and high winds may make it unsafe for our crews to go up in bucket lifts, so we urge our customers to be prepared. If your power goes out, it is possible that it may not be restored until Wednesday, or later.”
