A security guard shot two men dead due to a serious altercation at a McDonald’s restaurant in Toronto’s east end on early Saturday. According to Det. Sgt. Terry Browne, the shooting took place after an armed and uniformed security guard became involved in a “fairly significant physical confrontation” with two other patrons at the fast-food restaurant at about 3 a.m. on Saturday. He revealed that the two patrons appeared to have known each other.

The two men involved in the fight, believed to be 25 and 40, were later pronounced dead at the scene, whereas the guard was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of an injury to his hand. Police has confirmed that the guard is co-operating with officers as they continue their investigation. Quite noticeably, the guard did not work for the restaurant, located in the Coxwell and Danforth area, but was there to pick up food at the time of the incident. Browne added that almost 20 other people were present in the restaurant at the time of the shooting, including customers and staff.

Browne has confirmed that no arrests have been made so far but police is looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting. He explained that “from what I see on the video, it started very quickly and escalated from there, obviously” adding that “there’s no doubt that the security guard is the involved party for the discharging of the firearm. We’re really trying to put the pieces together for how this all played out and where we go from here.”
