MLA Andrew Younger has finally submitted the alleged secret recording of his conversation with the premier’s chief of staff, Kirby McVicar, which took place in February. Reports confirm that Mr. Younger made the submission of the relevant material at the clerk’s office at Province House on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. The evidence is currently being held in the clerk’s office until the Speaker of the House arrives to listen to it with an IT technician, at which point it will be released.
Earlier, the Speaker had issued a warrant on Friday as he sought Younger to produce the recording by noon today. According to Mr. Younger, he had sworn an oath to the effect that, the only parts of the recording he had were two short excerpts that have previously been released to the public. In his remarks, Mr. Younger alleged that “I understand what I have turned over is sufficient to satisfy the warrant and the matter is concluded,” adding that “I do not plan to comment on the matter today beyond that, as I believe the letter and the affidavit contain all the relevant information and I do not wish to comment in advance of seeing whether this is in fact finally over.”
The warrant issued by the Speaker of the House was a result of the motion passed unanimously by the House on Thursday as it called for Mr. Younger to produce the entire, unedited conversation with the premier’s chief of staff Kirby McVicar.
