theresa may insists britain can control its bordersUK’s Home Secretary, Theresa May, has made a very bold statement on Sunday as she stressed that Britain has control of its borders despite several official warnings that there might be over three million people who would’ve moved to the UK from abroad by 2030. Commenting on the issue for first time after Cameron’s the EU renegotiation deal, Mrs May confessed that the right of EU citizens to move to the UK “makes it harder to control immigration.”

Having said that, Mrs. May refuted claims that the government cannot limit numbers while in the EU as she stressed that “control of our borders and immigration policy are two different things.” Whereas on the other hand, Ukip’s only MP, Douglas Carswell, mentioned in his comments that these were “a glimpse of what happens if we vote Remain” and warned “no Home Secretary will ever be able to claim to cut migration” inside the EU.

Reports claim that the Home Secretary has been tasked to woo Tory Eurosceptics given her credibility on crime and immigration. During an interview to the BBC, Mrs May explained that controlling immigration was “hard” whether you were inside or outside the EU but conceded free movement did harm efforts to limit numbers. It was elucidated that “you have constantly to be working at [immigration] which is exactly what we’re doing. So you can’t just change one feature and assume that that is going to have an impact.”
