ebola nurse admitted to hospital for routine monitoringThe Scottish nurse who contracted Ebola while serving in Sierra Leone in 2014, 40-year-old Pauline Cafferkey, is now in stable condition after being taken to hospital under police escort for routine checkup. Ms Cafferkey contracted Ebola while working as part of a UK team at the Kerry Town Ebola treatment centre in Sierra Leone. Thereafter, she spent almost a month in isolation at the Royal Free hospital in London at the beginning of 2015 after the virus was detected when she arrived back in the UK.

Sources revealed that Ms Cafferkey was admitted to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being shifted from her home in South Lanarkshire at 09:30. The officials at the hospital have confirmed that she is undergoing routine monitoring by the Infectious Diseases Team and remains in a stable condition. According to a spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, “Ms Cafferkey was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital under routine monitoring by the Infectious Diseases Team.” It was added that “she is undergoing further investigations and her condition remains stable.” The paramedics have confirmed to have reached the nurse’s flat in Halfway, Cambuslang, on Thursday morning and left in an escort of police cars at about 09:30. Police clarified that the officers had “assisted in the transfer of a patient” on Thursday morning.

In response to the report of Ms Cafferkey’s admittance to the hospital, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon published a tweet that said: “sending my very best wishes to Pauline Cafferkey. She has already suffered way too much – & all for trying to help others. Thoughts with her.”
