The initial report of the joint investigation team (JIT) constituted to investigate the Model Town tragedy which included the attack on Pakistan Awami Tehreek Party workers and the house of the chief of PAT, Dr. Tahirul Qadri, revealed this Friday that the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sulaiman had ordered the elite force personnel to open fire on the PAT protesters.

In a statement recorded to the JIT, the Elite Force in-charge Abdul Rauf informed that Sulaiman had ordered Elite Force personnel to target protesters on their legs. After receiving the orders from Sulaiman, the Station House Officer (SHO) Sabzazar Sheikh Amir Saleem and other Elite Force personnel fired shots at demonstrators that resulted in several deaths. In light of the statement recorded by Abdul Rauf, further investigation against Saleem and other Elite Force personnel is underway. This Wednesday, the JIT took SHO Sabzazar and eight personnel of the Elite Police Force into ‘custody’ for questioning according to Dawn News.

The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri’s house was attacked by the police force of Lahore accompanied by the very loyal PML-N supporter Gullu Butt. The attack lead to death of about a dozen supporters of Dr. Tahirul Qadri and several being hospitalized due to severe injuries made from gunshots. After the Model Town clash, the chief minister had asked the law minister to resign from his post and fired his secretary while forming a joint investigation team to investigate the matter.
