The leader of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Dr Tahirul Qadri announced yesterday that his party supporters will hold country-wide protest against the tragedy that took place in Model Town Lahore and is marked with the blood of more than a dozen innocent people who lost their lives in that incident. As scheduled the protests started this Thursday morning with protestors carrying banners against the government.

On Wednesday the PAT chief held a meeting with the Chaudary brothers and the Awami Muslim League’s popular leader Sheikh Rasheed to discuss the ‘final round’ against the government.  Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Sheikh Rasheed said the date to get rid of the incumbent government, will be announced soon. Chaudhry Shujaat said the parade on Independence Day was a political move by the rulers, adding the efforts are being made to bring all opposition parties on a platform according to a local media house’s report,

The house of Dr. Tahirul Qadri, the chief of PAT, had been attacked during the incident. More than eighty people were injured and eight were declared dead on the spot. Two women were part of the deceased. The death toll had increased to eleven as the injured supporters of PAT waited for assistance by the General and Jinnah Hospital doctors. More than eighty people were wounded due to gunshots by the police.
