The Foreign secretaries of both India and Pakistan have agreed to meet in Islamabad on the 25th of August. It has been declared as a way to take forward the peace talks that were started after the oath taking ceremony of Narendra Modi. The Indian Prime Minister had invited his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif for the ceremony and carried a more personal talk the next day. After the oath taking ceremony, both the prime ministers had agreed to re-start the foreign secretary level talks.

The External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that,”It is almost two months since the Prime Ministers agreed that the foreign secretaries will keep in touch and explore how to move forward.” The date and venue of the meeting was decided during a telephonic conversation between the Indian Foreign Secretary Sujata Singh and the Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed according to Akbaruddin. The date is decided as the 25th of August whereas the venue will be Islamabad. “During the conversation they agreed to meet on August 25,” informed Akbaruddin.

During the telephonic conversation, Sujata Singh told Aizaz Ahmed that firing incidents at the Line Of Control (LoC) would act as impediments to the peace process. The Indian foreign secretary said that it would be difficult to hold meaningful dialogue alongside the sound of bullets being fired on the border and that peace and tranquility on the LoC is one of the most important Confidence Building Measures, the spokesperson added.
